That which Lauro, a priest estranged from the holy vows, confronts when he marries Clara and starts raising a family. They raise two daughters, Lerma and Agnes. Unbeknownst to Lauro, Agnes is a product of an illicit affair between Clara and Roman, a rich landlord, while Agnes, gets involved with Ador. The brutal truth becomes lucid to Lauro - the paternal bond that binds Agnes and Roman. A man can only take too much.
