This was originally broadcasted on TV based on the comic book of the same name. The story focuses on a boy named Gen who goes around barefoot. His father opposes the war and is arrested by the public security police for being "unpatriotic." Gen has a sister, a younger brother and an older brother, who decides to join the arm. The family lives near Hiroshima and Gen survives the atomic bomb but loses members of his family. The story begins with an older Gen visiting the atomic bomb memorial in Hiroshima.
