Antoine Rives, journaliste indépendant, tourne un reportage sur les rapatriés du Rwanda. Il rencontre alors Clément, étudiant rwandais d'origine hutue dont la fiancée tutsie, Alice, a disparu. Antoine le convainc de repartir avec lui au Rwanda à la recherche d'Alice, et de le laisser filmer son périple. Un "pacte" qui s'avère très vite intenable face au chaos dans lequel ils vont se trouver plongés. Une traversée de l'horreur dans laquelle Antoine perd ses illusions sur son métier de journaliste et se demande jusqu'à quel point il peut filmer et exposer la tragédie humaine au reste du monde.
