Burlesque Cock Fight Trailer

Burlesque Cock Fight Trailer (1903)

01 January 1903

This is a dandy, but is only one of the many performances of Mr. Walter Stanton, a natural born comedian. You see a little Bantam Rooster pitted against a supposed bird fully as large as an ordinary man. They fight all around a pit, but the little fellow is victorious, and deals his huge adversary a solar plexus blow without seeming difficulty. The ludicrous part of this picture is the difference in the sizes of the birds. It is bound to get a good laugh.

05 December 1903

The German legend of a scholar's unholy pact with the Devil would have been very familiar to most moviegoers (at least European ones), so Georges Méliès' early cinematic treatment likely got away with simply offering a fancifully illustrated late episode without the earlier narrative context (however, spoken narration provides some of the latter in this restored print).
