A loving father favors a prosperous young man as his daughter’s suitor but disowns her when she chooses a working-class man. Years later, the husband struggles against the ravages of tuberculosis to support his wife and daughter. The heroine’s father has become a miser, and around the time of the husband’s death he unwittingly moves into a cheap flat directly above that of his widowed daughter and her child. As the child prays for help, the miser’s stash of money falls down the chimney and lands beside her. Her faith touchs the father, and he reconciles with his daughter.

The plot revolves around US President Abraham Lincoln pardoning a hapless sentry who had fallen asleep while on duty during the height of the American Civil War.
Two Johns, a Confederate and an Union soldier, leave their families to go to the front. After a skirmish they end up separated from their respective sides, the Union soldier shoots the Confederate, but he has to escape and look for refuge in the house of his enemy.
An ailing woman is visited by her family doctor. This film was seized by Austrian authorities in 1911, and the fact was announced in the Wiener Zeitung, the Official Journal of Vienna.
The film pictures scenes on a big ostrich farm in Southern California, near Los Angeles. A large flock of several hundred of the big birds are seen feeding.
Grace Wallace was the only child of a widow of decidedly meager means. Mr. Rupert Howland, a widower of considerable wealth, the father of a girl child, and an old friend of the family, often surreptitiously helped them.
