The action of the movie takes place during a possible future war. A foreign state is preparing an attack on the Soviet Union. Professor Runge in his laboratory conducts an experiment with a new deadly gas. The plan of aggression is carried out. On a major Soviet industrial center the enemy command sends squadrons of planes with high-explosive and chemical bombs, with an airborne landing force led by White Guard officers.
Self-made businessman Sir Grant Rayburn is obsessed with making money to the exclusion of all else. He shows little interest in his daughter Jill and is irritated when she falls in love with, and wishes to marry, a young man named Tom.
A lover selflessly steps aside to let her guy go so he can hook up with a rich dame. Sadly, the goodie good girl ends up marrying some scum bag gambler.
Con-man Chandler and his partner Frank decide to start a clairvoyant act. Chandler falls for Sylvia, one of their marks, but their relationship is challenged when his deception impacts others' lives and Sylvia urges him to reform.
The Wrecker is a flinty-eyed demolition engineer named Regan (Jack Holt). While he's off on another assignment, Regan's wife Mary (Genevieve Tobin) and supposed best friend Cummings (Sidney Blackmer) engage in some heavy petting.
