Joe gets a job as a newspaper reporter and is sent to the jail to interview a notorious gangster the police have just captured. The gangster steals Joe's newspaper pass, and walks out of jail leaving Joe holding a very messy bag. Joe attempts several futile jail breaks of his own.
The Keystone Hotel hosts a very prestigious beauty contest. When the cross-eyed judge presents the first prize to an elderly cleaning woman, angry members of the audience respond by hurling custard pies.

Edith overhears Bart's plan to rob the bank so she informs Ken. But she is also overheard and when Ken goes to investigate, Bart's Henchman Prod frames him for the robbery.
