Johnny is a troubled 15-year-old who falls in with a bad crowd, steals a car and gets caught by the police. However, instead of sending Johnny to reform school, the judge takes an interest in him and assigns a probation officer to try to steer Johnny away from a life of crime.
Radio star Jack Benny, intending to stay in New York for the summer, is forced by the needling of rival Fred Allen to prove his boasts about roughing it on his (fictitious) Nevada ranch.
Judge Curry is selling Austin's land to nesters and his men are rustling his cattle to provide beef. When the Sheriff accuses butcher Gore of possessing stolen beef, Gore kills him.
