Carmen Basilio vs. Sugar Ray Robinson II Trailer (1958)

25 March 1958

Before their March 25, 1958 rematch, Carmen Basilio had dethroned Sugar Ray Robinson six months earlier in a brutal 1957 Fight of the Year, winning the middleweight title via split decision. Basilio, a gritty welterweight champ, moved up to challenge Robinson, then 36 and a four-time middleweight king. The upset fueled demand for a rematch, with Robinson as the underdog—a rare role for the aging legend. Basilio, still in his prime, aimed to cement his legacy, while Robinson sought redemption. The stage was set for another epic clash in Chicago.
