Film of a kinetic, sound-activated "Cybernetic Sculpture" developed by Wen-Ying Tsai. One part of an eight film collaboration between WGBH, Boston, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra and eight visual artists which explores new ways of presenting symphonic music over television. Each artist was commissioned to create a workvisually interpreting a segment of music selected by themselves from the Orchestra's recorded repertoire. Produced at WGBH by Fred Barzyk.
Paris 1900. Sharing a house in the Bohemian District are Roberto, a fledgling Musician, who is composing an Opera with his friend the poet Victor Duval; and the beautiful Cossette, daughter of a retired tenor, who goes up and down the stairs, taking advantage of Roberto's music to train her voice.
A veteran sea captain abducts his niece for what he believes is his last chance at love. As the sad demon of the ocean Klabautermanden watches the passing of doomed ships, the niece awakens in her uncle's cabin.
A farmer receives land from the king and discovers a buried golden mortar. He decides to give it to the king out of gratitude, but his clever daughter warns him that the king will surely want him to bring a corresponding pestle as well.
