Karl Nass and Jonny Tetens are captain and helmsman on a long voyage. When their shipowner Christiansen sells all his ships in order to have a modern container fleet built, Karl and Jonny bridge this waiting period as landlords of the sailors' pub "Kap Hoorn". One day, the shipowner's pretty little daughter Irmgard appears at "Uncle" Karl's because she has left home and her father wants to marry her off to a rich business friend in order to save his container building program financially. Under the mask of clumsiness and unattractiveness, she hides from her father's inquiries. Jonny falls in love with her. The father still gets the missing million.
