The 1986 live-action TV special was a one-time broadcast on Fuji Television's Monday Drama Land series on December 8, 1986. Loosely based on Nintendo's Famicom Disk System game of the same name, the special starred Masaki Kyomoto as the protagonist Takamaru and featured members of the popular 1980s J-Pop idol group Onyanko Club.
