Before there was D23, there was the Magic Kingdom Club, think of it as a Frequent Flyer program for Walt Disney World, and Disneyland. The club started in 1957 just 2 years after Disneyland opened. It started by offering discounted tickets to employees of large, sponsoring companies, throughout Southern California. MKC, as it was known provided a free employee benefit while the companies promoted Disneyland to their employees. The program went national in 1971 with the opening of Walt Disney World and included some unique perks, Vacation Packages, Group travel discounts and discounts with partner airlines, rental cars, cruise lines, and Hotels. The club produced Magazines and newsletters and in 1991 added the MKC Gold Card, a for-fee membership allowing people who didn’t work for a sponsoring company to join, bringing us to this video. This was an “annual” VHS cassette sent to MKC Gold club members. In 1991 the theme was “Dick Tracey” with “Detective Mic” in Update ’91.
