Recounts the history of Chinese immigration to Seattle and the restrictive immigration policies that, for decades, caused the Chinese population to be chiefly single men who needed a center for their lives. These buildings have filled those needs in various ways, first as labor clearing-houses, stores, and lodging, and currently as stores and homes for family and cultural organization.
