Produced as part of the Appalachian Media Institute (AMI) by Danielle Burke, April Caudill, Charles Cupp, and Brittany Rowlette, this short brings together first-hand accounts of what it is like to live in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, by gay, lesbian and queer residents.
Based on an autobiographical novella by Ivan Olbracht, the film tells the story of Hanele Safarová, who grows up just after the First World War in a little Ruthenian schtetl which, in true Hassidic fashion, awaits the arrival of the Messiah.
