In the 80's, passing the college entrance exam was the only hope for a future. To Chi-wen and Ming-hsien it is a bleak and unwanted future that they rebel against. Ming-hsien is in love with Jing-fen, a girl with a musician boyfriend. In order to prove his love Ming-hsien decides against taking the college entrance exam in order to help her with a financial scam. When Chiwen follows suit, he loses his girlfriend as well as his focus in life.
