Za Mauglija pa izve strašni tiger Šir Kan, ki sovraži ljudi, in ga hoče zato požreti. Volkovi sklenejo, da mora Maugli pobegniti iz džungle in se vrniti ljudem. Na nevarno pot ga pospremita njegova učitelja in prijatelja, prebrisani medved Balu in preudarni črni panter Bagira, s katerim spoznava skrivnostni zakon divljine.
