Bastian happens to run into Isabelle in the elevator; he secretly writes his phone number on one of her cigarettes. The next morning, she smokes the cigarette. She accidentally destroys her chance to contact him again. Isabelle therefore goes to a radio station she knows Bastian likes and goes on the air to make a “I’m looking for” call, but at the exact moment she’s live on the radio—which he’s listening to—he gets a call and doesn’t hear her.
