High in the hills of the Abancay department, Pablo plays with his dog, Darling. At home, his mother and father are always fighting. The worst happens at night when his father comes home drunk and abuses him. Darling is the only one who shows Pablo affection during his darkest hours. Time passes, and his father abandons the house and leaves. Pablo's mother becomes seriously ill and dies. Pablo no longer has Darling. Alone in the world, he has to work to survive. Finally, luck smiles upon him, and a family takes him in. Years pass, and Pablo starts his own family. The problem is that Pablo repeats the same pattern his father did in his own home: he abuses his wife and then abandons them. He can't find a way out of his problems; he can only think of one decision—a pessimistic one, to be sure.
