1940. War has come to Europe. Russian emigrant writer Ivan Bunin, Nobel laureate, together with his wife Vera Nikolaevna Muromtseva, moves from Paris to the south of France. In the vicinity of the city of Grasse, they rent a villa "Jeanette", which became a shelter for the Bunins and their friends for five long years.
