The Impossible Choice Trailer (2015)

01 January 2015 Factual 52 mins

About the new and the old Portuguese emigrants in France. A documentary co-produced by RTP and directed by Pedro Neves, about Portuguese emigrants in France in the 1960s and emigrants in the new century. A portrait of the Portuguese community in the Limousin region, The Impossible Choice strives to capture the variety and complexity of situations, from the first generation that arrived in France in the 1950s to their descendants, also divided between two countries. Today, a new wave of emigrants, driven by the crisis, is arriving in the Limousin region. Do they face the same difficulties as their predecessors? Do they have the same way of solving their problems? A collection of testimonies and exchanges of words between generations, the film questions the notions of identity and belonging to a territory. And it shows how and why, even today, some leave their country, sometimes their families, to seek a new history and new roots.
