Nanny Dong Lan receives news of her nephew's death. Fearing her superstitious employer would deem her unlucky and temporarily lay her off, she lies and asked for leave to return to her hometown. During the funeral, Dong Lan's son steals some of the sacrificial candy, and a local fortune teller warns Dong Lan not to lie for seven days.
