In a quiet East London basement, the sound of grime was shaped. Inside Jammer’s Basement takes us into the heart of the ‘dungeon’ — the makeshift studio in the family home of Jahmek Power, better known as Jammer. It was here that some of the genre’s most influential artists gathered, clashed, and recorded. A landmark in the story of grime, the space holds a deeper, lesser-known history. Long before it became a hub for music, the house was home to the East London Rastafari Information and Community Services — a grassroots project offering advice and support to vulnerable members of the Caribbean community. Blending intimate interviews with three generations of the Power family and previously unseen home footage, the film uncovers how one room became a site of both community organising and musical innovation.
