Patole opted for voluntary retirement from a government job in 1993 to concentrate on creative writing. Starting with short stories, he wrote one-act plays which fetched awards at various drama competitions. Hasrate, a hindi TV serial earned brought him to the fore in the industry while he write famous Marathi plays like Aai Retire Hotey.
He had also written the screenplay of Mahesh Kothare's hit film Zapatlela 2 released a couple of years ago.
