Edmund Yeo is a Malaysian filmmaker living and working in Malaysia and Japan. His short films, KINGYO (Venice Film Festival 2009) and INHALATION (Sonje Award winner, Busan International Film Festival 2010) secured his reputation as a promising filmmaker. In 2017, he won the Best Director award at the Tokyo International Film Festival for his sophomore feature AQERAT (We, The Dead).
In 2020, he directed the Japanese-Malaysian co-production MALU which co-starred Malaysian stars Sherlyn Seo and Mayjune Tan and Japanese stars Masatoshi Nagase and Kiko Mizuhara.
His latest film is MOONLIGHT SHADOW (2021), an adaptation of internationally-acclaimed author Banana Yoshimoto’s novella starring Japanese superstar Nana Komatsu.
He's also known for his highly acclaimed collaborations with Malaysian director Woo Ming Jin, having produced, co-wrote or edited the films that Woo had directed, like WOMAN ON FIRE LOOKS FOR WATER (Orrizonti section, Venice Film Festival 2009), THE TIGER FACTORY (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes Film Fest 2010), THE SECOND LIFE OF THIEVES, and STONE TURTLE (Locarno Film Festival 2022 FIPRESCI Prize winner)
