Gayford has started her career as production secretary on David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers (1988, starring Geneviève Bujold) and War of the Worlds (1988-90, starring Richard Chaves) and worked as assistant production coordinator on Camilla (1994) and as assistant production manager on the television drama Christmas in My Hometown (1996) and Johnny 2.0 (1997, with John Neville).
