Born Yeon-ok Kang in Busan, Korea in 1936 and graduated from Dongnae High School. Went to Hawaii in 1956 to study Political Science but won a beauty contest there and was signed by 20th Century-Fox. As of 1963, she was planning to sign with United Artists and establish a drama school in her native Korea.
