He formed an artistic duo with director Sherif Arafa, as they presented bold and controversial films such as The Third Class. After Arafa started collaborating with Wahid Hamed, Awwad formed a new duo with the assistant director from his previous films, but this time he served as a director. He was married to actress Soad Hosny until her death.
