Among the last great filmmakers, Nikos Kavoukidis, son of the pioneering filmmaker Giorgos Kavoukidis, has today to present a historical course of more than half a century in Greek cinema.
He was born in Piraeus and from a very young age he was taught the secrets of the 7th art by his father, who was a loyal friend, partner and supporter of Philopoimenas Finos - since thanks to his own financing Finos Film's first film "Voice of the Heart" was shot . This is how Nikos Kavoukidis has been in and out of Finos Film since he was a small child. At the age of 15, already passionate about the camera, he started working systematically at Finos Film as an assistant cameraman and editor, trained by Finos and Dino Katsouridis. Later Finos, confident of his abilities and talent, sent him to Italy to continue his training in photography. But, as he claims, the great school for him was Finos Film. From 1962 to 1968, Nikos Kavoukidis undertook the editing and later the director of photography in 20 fine films of Finos Film, collaborating with the best directors. From then on, he collaborated with the directors of modern Greek cinema, charting a path that has completely established him. Overall in his career he has worked exceptionally well with the greatest Greek directors, such as: Alekos Sakellarios, Dinos Dimopoulos, Yannis Dalianidis, Nikos Koundouros, Michalis Kakogiannis, Pantelis Voulgaris, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Dimis Dadiras, Vangelis Serdaris, Christos Siopachas, Nikos Tzimas, George Katakouzis mind , Antonis Kokkinos, Robiros Manthoulis, Tasos Psarras and many others.
Alongside his films, from 1957 onwards, he recorded with his lens every political event in Greece, culminating in the events of the Polytechnic, from which he directed the documentary film "Evidence" (1974), which was distinguished in many foreign festival. He has also directed the documentaries "Climbing the Kalavrita" and "Olympia - Land of Gods and Humans".
In his journey as a director of photography in film, television and theater he has been awarded ten times, most recently at the Olympia Festival, in which he was the honored person for his overall contribution to cinema, but also for the help he offers to young filmmakers . His wife is the actress Sofia Roubou and their daughter is Maria Kavoukidis, also an actress.
