Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫, born 手塚 治) was a Japanese cartoonist, manga artist, and animator.  He is best known as creator of "Astro Boy" and is often credited as the "Godfather of Anime".  He was the originator of anime's trademark "large eyes" style of character drawing.  He died of stomach cancer in 1989, and in 1994 the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum open in Takarazuka, Hyōgo, Japan.
