Ronan Mackenzie is an artist filmmaker and animator from Blackburn, Lancashire. Mackenzie’s work explores very personal narratives that combine his dreams, nightmares, lures, fears, and experiences to thematically investigate identity, familial relationships, memory and its eventual disintegration, existentialism, mortality, and the anthropogenic. Akin to a painting that moves, he combines multiple layers of moving and still images to create depth and texture to frames and sequences. In this process, new images, new sounds, and new ideas are formed to create connections. However, these connections might associate with the image and the sound, at times, connected and other times completely disjointed. His work has been broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four as well as screening and receiving nominations at BAFTA and OSCAR qualifying festivals. Some of these include: Encounters Film Festival, Aesthetica Film Festival, Athens Film + Video Gestival, Bolton Film Festival, Push festival (HOME, Manchester).
