1918. Siberia, a prisoner-of-war camp for Austrian soldiers. Among them are also Poles. A recruitment point for the Polish Army is set up near the camp. The Polish prisoners organize a unit and set off for Mikołajewsko, which is occupied by a unit of the "Whites." They capture a train belonging to the "Reds." They travel on it to the town of Barnałyk. The "Reds" catch up with the train. The Poles flee, Sergeant Władek blows up the train and dies. The unit reaches Mikołajewsko and enlists in the 5th Siberian Division Corps led by General Lucjan Żeligowski. The division sets off towards Poland.
