Sotir Gelev was born in Asenovgrad in 1960. In 1984/89 he studied at the National Academy of Art, Sofia. In the early 1990s, he worked in the field of graphical design and TV commercials. He created the special effects for several films (including "The Black Swallow" by Georgi Djulgerov); co-writer and director of the fantasy feature films Wizards (1999) and Kolobar (2001). He produced the TV series "Fairy Tales about Physics and Astronomy" (2001/07) and "Hello, Mr. Jasmine" (2008/09) for BNT. In 2009 he produced and directed the film Doroga.
